A. Policy for SNAP questions

We are responsible for asking the questions in question 58 to determine if the claimant is on, or wants to enroll in SNAP (formerly food stamps). B. When and how to complete question 58

  1. Complete 58(a) for all claimants except those residing in California.

  2. The "Go To" instructions in (a) will lead you through the appropriate questions.

  3. Remember, if the claimant has received a SNAP recertification notice in the last 30 days; ask if you may take a SNAP application.

  4. See SI 01801.010 for detailed instructions on completing the SNAP questions.

C. SNAP blocks on page 1

Mark the appropriate SNAP block in the upper right-hand corner of the SSA-8000-BK (Application for Supplemental Security Income) to indicate whether we took a SNAP application or we make a SNAP referral. For specific instructions, see SI 00604.006.
