A. Definition of technical corrective actions

Technical corrective actions (TCA) are instances of noncompliance with statutory, regulatory, or administrative requirements that affect effective program administration. There are no expectations for TCAs to change the disability determination or the period of disability.

B. Process for TCAs

1. Medical documentation TCA

The review component cites a medical documentation TCA when the case file contains sufficient medical evidence to support the disability determination and the onset, ending, or cessation date, but the medical documentation does not conform to specific requirements in current operating policies and procedures such as the Program Operations Manual System (POMS) or Social Security Rulings (SSR).

2. Vocational documentation TCA

The review component cites a vocational documentation TCA when the case file contains sufficient medical and vocational evidence to support the disability determination and the onset, ending, or cessation date, but the vocational documentation does not conform to specific requirements in current operating policies and procedures such as POMS or SSRs.

3. Diary entry TCA

The review component cites a diary entry TCA when the diary date is incorrect on any of the disability determination Forms SSA-831-C3 or SSA-831-U3, (Disability Determination and Transmittal), SSA-832-C3/U3 (Cessation or Continuance of Disability or Blindness Determination and Transmittal – Title XVI), or SSA-833-C3 and SSA-831-U3, (Cessation or Continuance of Disability or Blindness Determination and Transmittal – Title II); i.e., when the established diary date and the correct diary date differ by more than three months.
