DI 11010: Initial Disability Claims Processing
TN 49 (08-08)
Procedure-DOB established differs from allegation
When the Field Office (FO) completes development of Proof of Age (POA), the evidence may establish a DOB different from the one alleged. Show the evidence on Shared Process, and notify the Processing Center (PC) by Modernized Development Worksheet (MDW), when Shared Process documentation of proofs is applicable (e.g. no foreign documents involved, no material discrepancy). If the evidence establishes that the number holder (NH) has attained at least age 62 but has not attained full retirement age (FRA) in or before the first month of potential Disability Insurance Benefits (DIB) entitlement, the FO contacts the claimant to discuss available benefit alternatives. Based on the DOB established, he/she may wish to modify the benefits election (i.e., the claimant may decide to elect reduced Retirement Insurance Benefits (RIB) during the waiting period pending the award of DIB).
