RS 00205: Student Benefits

A. Policy - general

A student is in FTA if he/she is attending an elementary or secondary level school (an educational institution (EI)), as defined in RS 00205.200, and is meeting both State and Federal standards for FTA (RS 00205.300B and RS 00205.300C).

B. Policy - State standards

Consider the State requirements met if the school considers the student to be full-time based on the school's standards and practices for day students.

C. Policy - Federal standards

To meet Federal standards, the student must be:

  • Scheduled for attendance at the rate of at least 20 hours per week. See RS 00205.310A when attendance is less than 20 hours per week;

  • Enrolled in a course that is not a correspondence course. See RS 00205.275 if the student is taught in the home by a parent or other teacher who uses course material from a correspondence school; and

  • Enrolled in a course of study that is of at least 13 weeks' duration. See RS 00205.315 for policy on duration of course of study.

NOTE: Summer school attendance must meet the 20-hour per week test. (See RS 00205.315 regarding the 13-week duration test.)
