GN 03103: Hearings (Title II and Entitlement Under Title XVIII)
TN 18 (12-11)
When we require a claimant, his or her representative, and necessary unsubpoenaed witnesses to travel more than 75 miles one way, from their residence or office to a hearing, the Office of Hearings Operations (OHO) has authority to reimburse them for their traveling expenses.
If claimants who live outside of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa want an oral hearing, they must travel to one of these places at their own expense. If they have a representative in the U.S., the representative can attend an oral hearing and is eligible for travel expense reimbursement.
For information about Appeals of Payment for Certain Travel Expenses, see GN 03101.140.
