A. Introduction
Although there is confusion about the possible destruction of civil birth records in Nicaragua, a civil or religious record exists for most persons born in that country.
B. Procedure
Develop evidence of age for a person born in Nicaragua as follows:
If the claimant states... |
Then... |

a civil or religious birth record was made before age 5, |
ask him/her to get a birth/baptismal record from the appropriate office and to ask specifically that the recordation date be shown on the birth certificate. |
no civil or religious record was made before age 5 or that the records have been destroyed, |
develop for other evidence of age. |
