GN 00307: Foreign Evidence

PROCEDURE

1. General

Get evidence of death as follows:

  1. An official report of death (including a presumptive finding of death); or

  2. A telegram or signed communication from the casualty office of the headquarters of the decedent's branch of service or commanding officer; or

  3. Other reports or letters concerning the decedent's death if neither a. nor b. above is available.

2. Date of Death

Use the date of death, whether actual or presumptive, if the evidence in 1.a. or b. above is submitted.

If the evidence in 1.a. and b. above is not available and evidence as noted in 1.c. above is presented, get all such evidence and forward the case to the Office of International Policy (OIP), Division of International Program Policy and Agreements (DIPPA).
