A. Introduction

Double surnames are used in Spanish-speaking countries.

Spanish names consist of three parts: first the person's given name, then the father's first (paternal) surname and last the mother's paternal surname. If document requests do not show both surnames, the vital statistics records cannot be located.

B. Procedure

Get the claimant's complete name—not just a first name, middle initial and surname. Get the Spanish names, not anglicized versions.

Father's name: Jose Huerta Alejandre

Mother's name: Maria Gonzales Navarro

Child's name: Juan Huerta Gonzales
