 Procedure for resolving conflicts in evidence

To resolve conflicts in evidence:

• obtain a clarifying statement from the claimant or another person,

• obtain additional evidence to support the adjudicative decision.

NOTE: If we obtain all relevant evidence and we can only resolve the conflict by inferences based on the evidence in the file, document the decision, preferably on an SSA-553, Special Determination, or the Report of Contact (RPOC) screen in the Modernized Claims System (MCS).
