A. Procedure in Modernized Claims System (MCS) applications

In MCS claims, answer the Medicare question on the ADDB screen if the claimant is 64 years and 9 months old. This information will propagate to the HIHI screen.

B. Procedure for paper applications

Use the following chart to decide if a claimant within three months of age 65 or older should complete the SMI enrollment block.

If the claimant...

he or she should...

is subject to automatic enrollment and wants SMI,

not complete the question.

is subject to automatic enrollment but does not want to be automatically enrolled,

answer the enrollment question “no.”

resides in Puerto Rico or outside the U.S. and is filing in a prescribed enrollment period,

answer the enrollment question “yes” if he or she requests enrollment.
