RM 10211: Alien Evidence for an SSN

A. Evidence of immigration status

F2 and M2 non-immigrants must have evidence of nonimmigrant status per RM 10211.135 and an I-20 as evidence of immigration status. F-2 and M-2 spouses and children on F1s and M1s, respectively are not authorized to work in the U.S. F2 and M2 spouses and children are not eligible to apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) and are only eligible for SSNs in the rare situations when requirements for a non-work SSN are met.
