VB: Special Veterans Benefits
BASIC (01-02)
A. Policy
An individual cannot qualify for SVB for any month during which he/she is fleeing to avoid prosecution, or custody or confinement after conviction, under the laws of the United States or the jurisdiction within the United States from which the person has fled, for a crime, or an attempt to commit a crime, that is a felony under the laws of the place from which the individual has fled or, in jurisdictions that do not define crimes as felonies, is punishable by death or imprisonment for a term exceeding 1 year regardless of the actual sentence imposed.
B. Procedure
If the FBU, or FO receives information indicating that a recipient may no longer qualify for SVB based on the above policy, fax the material to the “Office of International Programs (OIP), Attention: SVB” at (410) 966-7025. Send the original material to the CPS having SVB jurisdiction for association with the SVB file. CPS will refer its findings to the CPS for processing.
