POLICY

1. Development

If the information received on the SSA-2512 requires OPM development to determine the basis for an annuity, an SSA-655-U2 generally will be required. See RS 01702.260-RS 01702.278 for development procedures and how to evaluate the information received.

2. Evidence

If the claimant presents an OPM annuity award letter with Form RI-20-49 attached, the check blocks on the latter form will indicate if OPM did or did not use the pre-1957 MS. In this situation, SSA-655-U2 development would not be necessary.
