NL 00601: Notification Policy and Procedures

A. Introduction

This chapter provides the following policy and procedures on notices sent to Title II claimants and beneficiaries.

  • When to send a notice;

  • What the notice should include; and

  • How to prepare it.

B. Background

SSA's goal is to send notices that are correct and easily understood. We are revising all notice language and formats to conform to notice standards (See NL 00610.000 Social Security Administration (SSA) Notice Standards.)
