HI 00801: Hospital Insurance Entitlement

A. Policy
An individual who has attained age 65 is a QRRB if he/she:
is entitled to an RR annuity or pension, or
has filed an application for HI with RRB and would be entitled to an RR annuity if he/she ceased compensated service and filed an application for an annuity, or
has filed an application for HI with RRB and would be entitled as the spouse of an RR worker if the worker ceased compensated service and filed an application for an annuity, or
is so related to a RR worker that he/she has been, or would be, considered under the special SS guaranty provision in computing the amount of the worker's annuity.
B. Procedure
In determining whether an individual is a QRRB, consider that a RR worker would be entitled to an annuity if he/she:
is at least age 62 and has 120 service months, or
effective 1/01/2002, is at least age 62 and, after December 31, 1995, has at least 60 service months of covered service but less than 120 service months; or
is under a disability freeze at any age and has 120 service months, or
effective 1/01/2002, is under a disability freeze at any age and, after December 31, 1995, has at least 60 service months of covered service but less than 120 service months.
