A beneficiary may authorize the automatic debiting of his or her checking or savings account for a wide variety of reasons. Many individuals authorize companies, to electronically debit, their accounts as a convenient way to pay monthly bills. If a beneficiary reports a problem with an automatic debit, restrict SSA action to verifying that the monthly benefit was correctly deposited in the designated checking or savings account. Problems with any subsequent funds transfer arrangement are the responsibility of the beneficiary and his or her Financial Institution (FI).
