GN 02402.361 Coding Jordanian Bank Data on the Master Beneficiary Record (MBR)
- GN 02402.361 Coding Jordan Bank Data on the Master Beneficiary Record (MBR)
This section describes how to code bank data for international direct deposit (IDD) of title II benefits to a financial institution (FI) in Jordan. The Social Security Administration (SSA) stores bank data on the MBR in the same fields used for United States (U.S.) direct deposit. Special coding identifies the data as a Jordan direct deposit and allows SSA to route benefit payments through the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City (FRBKC) and the processor bank in Jordan to the beneficiary's FI.

We store bank data on the MBR in the same fields used for United States (U.S.) direct deposit. Special coding identifies the data as a Jordan direct deposit and allows us to route benefit payments through the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City (FRBKC) and the processor bank in Jordan to the beneficiary's FI. If you receive an IDD request in a U.S. domestic (i.e, non-border) field office (FO), forward all appropriate information to the Office of Earnings and International Operations (OEIO), Division of International Operations (DIO) to process.
NOTE: U.S. domestic (i.e., non-border) field offices (FOs) should not attempt to process an IDD request for this country. U.S. domestic FOs must forward all appropriate information to the Office of Earnings and International Operations, Division of International Operations (OEIO, DIO) for processing (For more information on forwarding IDD information, see GN 02402.205C, GN 01010.255, and GN 01702.310C).

D. Description of Jordanian direct deposit data
- D. Description of Jordan direct deposit data
The data for coding Jordanian IDD will come from banks that the FRBKC has determined can receive IDD payments. The FRBKC identified and listed the participating FIs on the International Treasury Services (ITS.gov) website as part of the ITS help file. If you do not have access to ITS.gov, you should refer to the listing in GN 02402.361H in this section to verify bank codes when processing direct deposit to Jordan banks.
- IDD comes from banks that the FRBKC determined can receive IDD payments. The FRBKC identified and listed the participating FIs on the International Treasury Services (ITS.gov) website as part of the ITS help file. If you do not have access to ITS.gov, to verify bank codes when processing direct deposit to Jordan banks, refer to the listing in GN 02402.361G in this section.
The IDD coding for Jordan FIs consist of up to 26 characters, including the country code of “J” for Jordan. The account number contains:
* a 9-digit RTN 6600BBBBX : where 66 is the country code field, positions 2 and 3 are filler “0”s, BBBB = 4-digit bank code, X = the check digit code; and
* a DAN JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, which consists of a country code of “J” for Jordan, followed by the account number (up to 16–digits in length).
- The data to code Jordan IDD comes from the International Bank Account Number (IBAN) provided to the beneficiary from his or her FI. The IBAN is 30 characters. However, the IDD coding for Jordan bank data consists of 27 characters, including the country code of “J” for Jordan.
NOTE: Account type when enrolling in International Treasury Services (ITS.gov) can be defaulted to checking if there is no indication of whether the account is a checking or a savings account.
- E. Procedure to code Jordan bank data
E. Procedure for coding Jordanian routing and account numbers
- The FRBKC relies on us to provide the complete bank data to ensure correct posting of payments to a customer’s account. If the information is incomplete, the FRBKC rejects the payment and returns the funds to our agency. When you establish or change IDD bank data for Jordan through an SSA system (i.e., Modernized Claims System (MCS), Manual Adjustment Credit and Award Data Entry (MACADE), etc.), you must go to ITS.gov to enter:
- * account ownership;
- * account type;
- * beneficiary address;
- * country;
- * enrollment status;
- * first and last name of the beneficiary;
- * IBAN;
- * payee indicator; and
- * Society for Worldwide Internet Financial Telecommunication-Business Identifier Code (SWIFT-BIC).
The FRBKC relies on SSA to provide the complete bank data to ensure correct posting of payments to a customer’s account. If the information is incomplete, the FRBKC will reject the payment and return the funds to SSA. You can code bank data for Jordan through ITS.gov when establishing or changing IDD or use an SSA system (e.g., POS, MACADE). When using ITS.gov, bank data will post to the MBR within 4 business days.
- 1. Swift-BIC code obtained from the FI
1. Initial award processing
- The SWIFT code contains a minimum of 8 characters, and a maximum of 11 characters:
- * first four characters - bank code (only letters);
- * next two characters - ISO 3166-1 alpha 2 country code (only letters);
- * next two characters - location code (letters and digits) (passive participant have "1" in the second character); and
- * last 3 three characters - branch code, optional ('XXX' for primary office) (letters and digits).
If you are working on an initial award, you must update ITS.gov using the bank account information prior to processing the award to ensure that the beneficiary will receive his or her payment. If the complete bank account information is not in ITS.gov when the payment processes, the payment will reject and return to SSA.
- 2. Initial award processing
2. Adding or updating bank data using SSA systems
- If you are working on an initial award, you must update ITS.gov using the bank account information prior to processing the award to ensure that the beneficiary receives his or her payment. If the complete bank account information is not in ITS.gov when the payment processes, the payment rejects and returns to our agency.
If you use an SSA system (e.g., POS, MACADE) to add or update bank data to an MBR, do not input the bank account information into ITS.gov as the information will transfer to ITS.gov on the next business day.
- 3. Add or update bank data using SSA systems
NOTE: If it is within 4 business days of the current operating month (COM) cut-off date, use the procedure outlined below to code bank data to the MBR using an SSA system.
- You must update ITS.gov on the same day if you use an SSA system to add or update bank data on the MBR (i.e. Post Entitlement Online System (POS), MACADE, etc.). Enter all POS direct deposit changes according to normal procedures. When coding IDD bank data in an SSA system for Jordan within four business days of the current operational month (COM) cutoff date, use the procedure outlined in the chart in this section.
- Step
- Action
- 1
- Are you coding an initial claim?
- If yes, go to step 3.
- If no, go to step 2.
- 2
- Is the beneficiary's address on the MBR in a foreign country (PCOC = 8)?
- If yes, go to step 3.
- If no, STOP.
- REASON: The MBR will not accept the IDD information.
- 3
To derive the 9-digit RTN for Jordan, code as follows:
* prefix of 66 (the multi-country prefix SSA and FRBKC designated to use for IDD to Jordan),
* 2 filler zeros “00”,
* 4-digit bank code based on FI name after verifying accuracy against either the ITS.gov help file or the listing in GN 02402.361H in this section, and
* 1-digit check code, (obtained through Title II Interactive Comps).
- Is the beneficiary's account a Jordanian Dinar (JOD) account in Jordan?
NOTE: The final digit is the U.S. check digit code and is subject to change. Obtain check digit code through the Title II Interactive Comps from the Main Menus 07/Sub Menu 16.
- If no, STOP.
- REASON: Beneficiaries in Jordan can only receive IDD payments in USD accounts.
- If yes, go to step 4
- 4
Code the Type of Account as an “S” for savings or a “C” for checking. If no indicated account type, use a “C” for checking account.
- The RTN is 660000026 for all IDD to Jordan. SSA and FRBK designated “66” the multi-country prefix for Jordan IDD. The “6” at the end of the RTN represents the U.S. check digit code for all IDD accounts in Jordan. Therefore, do not obtain the check digit code from Title II Interactive Comps.
- 5
To derive the DAN for Jordan, code as follows:
* “J” designated for Jordan, and
* account number (up to 16–digits in length).
- Code the Type of Account as an “S” for savings or a “C” for checking. If no indicated account type, use a “C” for checking account.
NOTE: SSA does not have IDD for U.S. dollar accounts in Jordan.
F. Example of coding Jordanian bank data
The customer provides us with a sign-up form for Jordan containing the following information:
* Bank Code: 1234, and
* Account Number: 5678901234567890.
- 6
1. Derive the RTN
To derive the RTN, code as follows:
* prefix of “66” (the multi-country prefix for Jordan),
* first 2 positions are filler zeros “00”s,
* 4-digit bank code “1234” after verifying accuracy against either the ITS.gov help file or the listing in GN 02402.361H in this section,
* 1-digit check code (i.e., 8) (obtained from the Title II interactive Comps from the Main Menus 07/Sub Menu 16), and
* the type of account as a “C” for checking or an “S” for savings. If there is no indicated account type, use a “C” for checking.
- To derive the DAN for Jordan, code as follows:
- * Start with the country code of “J” designated for Jordan, and
- * Code 16 digits of the 18-digit account number.
2. Derive the DAN
- NOTE: We do not have IDD for U.S. dollar accounts in Jordan.
To derive the DAN, code as follows:
* “J” (for Jordan), and
* 16-digit account number 5678901234567890.
The coder will obtain the following:
RTN: 660012348
- 7
Checking
DAN: J5678901234567890
- You must take action on the same business day to update the full IBAN and SWIFT into ITS.gov along with the information listed in the introduction of GN 02402.361E in this section.
The coding in POS will reflect:
- If you do not have access to ITS.gov, ask a co-worker who has access to update the IBAN into ITS.gov. FRBKC needs all of this information to process the IDD payment. When this information is not available, FRBKC rejects the payment and returns it to our agency.
