A. Procedure

Forward all correspondence and notices to claimants and beneficiaries in Nicaragua to the U.S. Embassy in that country by OF-41. On the OF-41, show “For transmission to the addressee.”

B. Process

The Embassy either:

• Mails the correspondence to the addressee, or

• Gives it to him when he comes in to pick up his benefit check if he is in current pay status. (Beneficiaries in Nicaragua pick up their checks at the Embassy).

If a letter which contains an appeal paragraph (e.g., an award notice) is held for more than 5 workdays, the Embassy advises SSA of the date of the release so that SSA can annotate its records in the event the determination is appealed.
