A. Procedure — claims inquiries from the philippines or claims-taking countries
- A. Procedure — claims inquiries from the Philippines or claims-taking countries
- Obtain a benefit estimate if the claims inquiry is from an individual in a claims-taking country (as shown in GN 00904.225C.) or the Philippines.
- 1. No possible entitlement
- Advise the claimant in accordance with existing instructions.
- 2. Entitlement possible — inquiry is a protective filing date
- Send an SSA-L437 to the inquirer.
Forward the inquiry to the servicing FSP or the Veterans Affairs Regional Office (VARO) in Manila. Note that it is a protective writing.
- Forward the inquiry to the servicing FBU. Note that it is a protective writing.
- Place a copy of the inquiry in the L-DUP folder.
- Diary in accordance with GN 00904.245.
- Note: If a 6-month close-out notice is necessary, CDB will send it.
- 3. Entitlement possible —inquiry is not a protective filing writing
- Send an SSA-L437 to the inquirer.
Forward the inquiry to the servicing FSP or VARO.
- Forward the inquiry to the servicing FBU.
- Place a copy of the inquiry and the SSA-L437 in the permanent folder or, if there is none, the L-DUP folder in the 6-month destruct file.
- B. Procedure — claims inquiries from other countries
- Refer claims inquiries from individuals in the British Virgin Islands, Canada, the U.S. and Western Samoa to the servicing FO.
- Handle claims inquiries from individuals in other countries by direct mail, except as provided in GN 00904.217.
