  • The review component returns medical evidence of record (MER) technical corrective actions (TCA), which by definition apply only to less than fully favorable determinations, to the adjudicating component using Form SSA-847-U3 (SSA Request for Case Action) and requires mandatory corrective action.
  • For less than fully favorable determinations, the review component returns medical evidence of record (MER) technical corrective actions (TCA) to the adjudicating component using Form SSA-847-U3 (SSA Request for Case Action). An SSA-847-U3 requires mandatory corrective action.
  • B. Procedure for the adjudicating component when correcting 12-month MER TCAs
  • Upon receipt of the return:
  • * Obtain the medical documentation requested on the SSA-847-U3;
  • * Prepare a revised determination and return the case to the review component if the disability determination or basis code changes;
  • * Process and route the case as you would a non-sample case if the disability determination does not change and there is no group I or group II deficiency. Do not return the case to the review component; and
  • * Update the personalized notice to include the evidence obtained because of the return.
